The Pool House
A two-tired fountain and two marble entranceways greet you at
the front of the Pool House. The interior resembles a terrarium
with tropical plants growing on each end of the tiled pool.
Sliding glass doors lead out back to a lush green courtyard,
bordered for privacy by a brick wall capped with marble and
lined with camellias. The lawn facing the Pool House entrance
is one of the most popular wedding sites on the Plantation.
Capacity - 300
Avenue of Magnolias
In what was once the grand entrance to the property, two majestic
columns of magnolias lead up to the Veranda at the Main House.
A blanket of grass weaves among them before drifting off into
the back gardens and marble pond. This site offers an antebellum
ambience wonderfully suited for receptions and cocktail parties.
The setting becomes even more breathtaking when the bride enters
the Avenue of Magnolias and approaches the Veranda by carriage
to greet her guests or groom.
Capacity - 500
The Gardens
The Sunken Garden is a traditional formal English Garden with
its ornamental shrubs and plants arranged in carefully groomed,
symmetrical lines. Flower colors progress from white to pink
to multi-colored as one nears the North Pasture. Weddings,
receptions, and other special gatherings are frequently held
here.
The nearby Formal Garden was created by Howard Melville Hanna
Sr. to reflect the labyrinth style often found among England's
more majestic gardens. Along with the sunken Garden, it provides
a lovely setting for a garden tea, an evening cocktail party,
or a small wedding reception.
Capacity - 100
The Showboat Theatre
The theatre is a replica of the stage set from the Broadway musical
sharing its name. Out front, an arched walkway spans a sunken
pond that guards the entrance. The theatre was constructed
with both ground floor and balcony seating. Its barreled ceiling,
framed with pecky cypress, was designed for acoustical effect
and continues a natural theme found throughout the property.
Copper lights hanging from the ceiling are decorated in an
anchor and porpoise motif. The movie Gone With the Wind was
first shown in the Showboat Theatre to Melville Hanna Sr. and
his guests.
Capacity – 100-250
